The loss of the biodiversity is alarming not only for its intrinsic value but also because of the ecological functions associated, which indirectly lead the social and human wellbeing. Until today the rewilding was at the margin in the field of ecology. However, the urgency of the situation to protect and to restore the ecosystems and the ecological functions put the concept on the limelight. The recent enthusiasm had led to discussions about the real differences between ecological restoration and rewilding. Even if the scientific literature is mentioning more and more the rewilding, there is still a lack of hindsight and scientific results of rewilding projects. This lack is causing difficulties to better understand the differences, the similarities and the complementarity of both restoratives’ approaches. Thirty years ago, in the National Park of Cévennes (southern France), Przewalskii horses have been introduced for the conservation of the specie. In the light of this new problematic, it is a real opportunity to re-examine the possible differences with the traditional breeding sheep of the Cévennes and with new land uses such as with wild horses and breeding of domestic horses. To understand, compare and highlight the main differences between the three land uses, we are going to study different aspects at two scales. At the local scale, we are going to examine the vegetation, the orthopteras and the coprophagous coleoptera. At a landscape scale, we are going to explore the process with the animal behaviour and the use of the resources in the space.
