Morphological criteria alone are not enough to distinguish its members, which complicates the protection of <strong>endangered habitats<\/strong>.<\/p><p>This complex consists of :<\/p><ul><li><em>Limonium confusum, <\/em><\/li><li><em>Limonium cuspidatum, <\/em><\/li><li><em>Limonium densissimum,<\/em><\/li><li><em>Limonium legrandii.<\/em><\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The distributions of these four taxa overlap and their boundaries remain unclear.<\/p><p>In this <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s10592-026-01759-w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article published in <em>Conservation genetics<\/em><\/a>, the authors, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imbe.fr\/en\/annuaire\/cyllene-chatellier\/\">Cyll\u00e8ne Chatellier<\/a>, Christine Tollon, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imbe.fr\/en\/annuaire\/alex-baumel\/\">Alex Baumel<\/a>, James Molina and Bouchaib Khadari, have sampled all known populations of the four taxa in order to delimit the areas of interest. <strong>Significant Evolutionary Units (ESU).<\/strong> They analysed the <strong>genotypes of 305 specimens<\/strong> from 30 populations using 12 nuclear microsatellite markers. This study identified 23 multilocus genotypes grouped into three distinct groups, challenging current taxonomy.<\/p><p>The analyses show that there is no genetic mixing within or between these clusters, even in sympatry. This lack of gene flow can be explained by the <strong>apomictic reproduction<\/strong> of the species concerned.
