A study <a href=\"https:\/\/iopscience.iop.org\/article\/10.1088\/2515-7620\/ae99b2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published in <em>Environmental Research Communications<\/em><\/a> focuses on one of these effects: <strong>What happens to the vegetation in solar parks?<\/strong><\/p><p>Researchers at the IMBE have studied <strong>161 parks in France, Germany and the United Kingdom<\/strong>, based on 2,429 surveys carried out between 2016 and 2025. Their findings show that the <strong>Solar panels reduce vegetation cover and the number of species<\/strong> found directly beneath the panels, where they encourage the growth of plants that are better suited to shade. <strong>The management of plots through grazing or mowing also influences the composition of the vegetation<\/strong>, but to varying degrees depending on the area of the park. The study also reveals that <strong>The site\u2019s history prior to the installation of the panels continues to influence biodiversity several years later<\/strong> : Parks established on former wooded areas therefore have a lower species richness than those developed on former industrial sites.<\/p><p>These findings show that biodiversity in solar parks does not depend solely on the presence of solar panels or how they are managed, but also on the characteristics and history of the soil.
