Their great sensitivity to human pressures makes them genuine indicators of the state of health of terrestrial and marine ecosystems.<\/p><p data-start=\"423\" data-end=\"623\">For several years, a vast research programme conducted jointly by the UMR <strong data-start=\"511\" data-end=\"519\">IMBE<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"523\" data-end=\"535\">ENTROPIE<\/strong> is dedicated to the study of seabirds in the coral islands of the tropical Pacific.<\/p><p data-start=\"625\" data-end=\"1107\">As part of the <strong data-start=\"649\" data-end=\"662\">Megafauna<\/strong>This project is the result of a partnership between the IRD (UMR ENTROPIE and IMBE, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imbe.fr\/en\/recherche\/equipes-de-recherche\/popco-populations-paysages-communautes-conservation\/\">POPCO team<\/a>), New Caledonian institutions managing natural areas (North Province, South Province, Coral Sea Natural Park - PNMC), the Pasteur Institute of New Caledonia and the veterinary services of the <strong data-start=\"938\" data-end=\"947\">DAVAR<\/strong>Several expeditions are planned for 2025. The aim is to learn more about the bird communities living on the isolated islets of the CMNP.<\/p><p data-start=\"1109\" data-end=\"1390\">The most recent mission, carried out in <strong data-start=\"1146\" data-end=\"1157\">July<\/strong> in the <strong data-start=\"1181\" data-end=\"1197\">Chesterfield<\/strong> and<strong data-start=\"1203\" data-end=\"1220\">Entrecasteaux<\/strong>has enabled us to gather essential data. Biometric measurements and biological samples were taken from three emblematic breeding species:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1391\" data-end=\"1536\"><li data-start=\"1391\" data-end=\"1435\"><p data-start=\"1393\" data-end=\"1435\">the <strong data-start=\"1396\" data-end=\"1418\">red-footed booby<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"1420\" data-end=\"1431\">Sula sula<\/em>),<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1436\" data-end=\"1491\"><p data-start=\"1438\" data-end=\"1491\">the <strong data-start=\"1441\" data-end=\"1463\">sooty tern<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1487\">Onychoprion fuscatus<\/em>),<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1492\" data-end=\"1536\"><p data-start=\"1494\" data-end=\"1536\">and the <strong data-start=\"1500\" data-end=\"1514\">brown noddi<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"1516\" data-end=\"1532\">Anous stolidus<\/em>).<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1538\" data-end=\"1741\">These samples will provide valuable information on population genetics, connectivity between colonies and the exposure of birds to health risks, particularly avian influenza.<\/p><p data-start=\"1743\" data-end=\"1951\">At the same time, an initial exploratory tracking study by <strong data-start=\"1802\" data-end=\"1809\">GPS<\/strong> was carried out on brown noddis to gain a better understanding of their movements and distribution at sea during the breeding season.<\/p><p data-start=\"1743\" data-end=\"1951\">Contacts for further information: <a href=\"\/en\/aurore.ponchon@imbe.fr\/\">Aurore Ponchon<\/a> and <a href=\"\/en\/helene.demeringo@imbe.fr\/\">H\u00e9l\u00e8ne de M\u00e9ringo\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Les oiseaux marins figurent parmi les esp\u00e8ces les plus menac\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle mondiale.
