CorsicanFire : Chronicles and spacial analyses of pin laricio forest in Corsica : interactions between climate and sylvopastoral practices in a sustainable management perceptive. Spatio temporal analyses of fires in Corsican black pine forest : interactions with climate and forest husbandry for a sustainable forest.
CIFRE project funded by the Corsican DREAL
Abstract : The CorsicanFires project aims to analyze, based on dendrochronological technics, and geomatics, the changes in fire regimes (frequency, season, area) in the endemic Corsican black “laricio” pine forest ecosystem in the mountain of Corsica. By cross-analyses with climatic and land use data (forestry, traditional husbandry, land use map), the project will enhance the main climatic or sociological drivers that have contributed to explain these changes in fire regime during the last three centuries. These results will contribute to improve the knowledge on the causes of forest fires, and will provide stakeholders and land managers with rational information on the determinants of fire regime in a perspective of sustainable forest management in a susceptible socio-ecosystem of high European interest for biodiversity.
