Quelle est la vulnérabilité des écosystèmes aux changements globaux passés, présents et futurs ?
L’équipe VEC s’intéresse à l’effet des changements globaux (réchauffement, aridification, invasions biologiques, urbanisation, eutrophisation, pollutions) sur différents écosystèmes (terrestres, lacustres, eaux courantes) des populations aux communautés (microbiennes, végétales, animales). Nos recherches se déclinent à partir des points suivants :

  • Evaluation des processus contrôlant la biodiversité des populations aux communautés
  • Effets des changements globaux sur les interactions biotiques (plantes/microorganismes, réseaux trophiques, interactions intra-guildes) et rétroaction sur les communautés,
  • Rôle de la biodiversité sur les fonctions écosystémiques,
  • Evaluation des effets des changements globaux sur les réponses/résistances des systèmes écologiques.
    Nous répondons à ces questions à travers des approches incluant des outils variés tels que traits fonctionnels, diversités microbiennes, paysages sonores, modèle de niches, réseaux d’interactions, modèles démographiques.

Quels liens unissent structure et fonctionnalité du paysage?
La structuration des paysages renseigne sur la fonctionnalité des écosystèmes. Ainsi, notre équipe travaille au niveau du paysage pour appréhender le fonctionnement spatial et temporel des populations et des communautés d’organismes. A travers la modélisation, nous cherchons à comprendre comment l’hétérogénéité des paysages structure les composantes de la biodiversité aussi bien sur le plan fondamental que dans le transfert vers l’aménagement du territoire.

  • Prise en compte de l’hétérogénéité du paysage dans la structure de la biodiversité.
  • Évaluation des continuités écologiques en lien avec la conservation de la biodiversité.
  • Comprendre les liens entre le paysage et le microclimat pour prédire les microrefuges de demain.
  • Modélisation des paysages dans la compréhension globale des processus écosystémiques.
  • Etude des relations entre la dynamique temporelle des paysages et la structuration des communautés.

Comment accompagner les mesures de conservation par l’analyse des écosystèmes?
Les écosystèmes –ainsi que les communautés et les populations qu’ils hébergent- sont de plus en plus fortement affectés par les activités humaines. Nous travaillons de concert avec les gestionnaires pour la conservation de l’ensemble des composantes de la biodiversité. Nos recherches alimentent les réflexions autour des mesures de conservation afin qu’elles soient basées sur des notions scientifiquement valables. Nos objectifs sont de :

  • Favoriser la prise en compte de la fonctionnalité et de l’intégrité des écosystèmes dans les mesures de gestion.
  • Fixer les objectifs de conservation en partenariat avec les gestionnaires
  • Elaborer les protocoles de suivi et partager leur finalité avec les gestionnaires et le grand public.
  • Superviser le suivi et évaluer l’efficacité des mesures de gestion.
  • S’impliquer dans la sensibilisation, l’éducation et le débat public autour des questions relatives à la biodiversité

De plus, par le caractère opérationnel de l’équipe VEC, ses membres se positionnent naturellement dans une optique de transfert des connaissances et des expériences acquises.
Ce transfert est pluriel, mais revêt essentiellement deux formes :
 l’information et l’animation de réseaux d’information à destination du tout-public et de la société civile de façon plus générale
 le retour d’expérience et l’aide à la décision à destination de nos partenaires, en complément de l’accompagnement opérationnel apporté par ailleurs
Pour ce faire, l’équipe est impliquée dans des opérations de communication avec l’appui du service “communication informatique et documentation” de l’IMBE
