ARMS (Autonomous Reef Monitoring Structures) programme, from the NOAA through the DEVOTES project (DEVelopment Of innovative Tools for understandig marine biodiversity and assessing good Environmental Status) has a station (3 sites) in the Bay of Marseille, managed by the IMBE and the divers (...)
Dive sites
Sea-beds of the area of Marseilles conceal some of the most beautiful sites of diving of the Mediterranean, indices of a very important biodiversity.
According to the action to be undertaken, to be profitable the diving must proceed relatively near to the laboratory, sparing time and increasing security. Several “chantiers” are thus open in Bay of Marseilles, very rich in various biotopes, or in its surroundings (observations, monitoring, experiment).
The research programs can also require to go to explore sites in all Mediterranean and in the Atlantic (dynamic and genetics of the popualtions of species displaying very large distribution areas).
Lastly, within the framework of compared approachs, the harvest or the observtaion of living organism in mediums in very contrasted conditions forces to build programs being able to proceed in the polar seas, as in the tropical seas.
