Je travaille en général sur de multiples aspects de la biodiversité marine, mes intérêts naturalistes sont larges, mais mon centre d’intérêt principal est l’écologie et l’évolution des peuplements des grottes sous-marines.

Parmi les espèces de grottes, les crustacés mysidacés et décapodes m’intéressent tout particulièrement, ainsi que certains spongiaires qui montrent des affinités avec les peuplements profonds des canyons.

Les grottes reproduisent une sorte de modèle en îles, très précieux pour les études populationnelles sur la fragmentation de l’habitat et la connectivité.
Mes recherches comprennent donc une partie purement naturaliste pour décrire les communautés et les espèces qui les composent, y compris quand elles sont nouvelles pour la science, mais aussi une partie évolutive avec un volet de phylogéographie et de phylogénie moléculaires.

Enfin je suis attentif aux changements globaux qui s’exercent sur ces milieux peu résilients, notamment le réchauffement des eaux.
Mes zones d’étude sont situées principalement en Méditerranée, mais j’ai aussi effectué des comparaisons utiles avec l’Atlantique (proche et Caraïbe), le Pacifique (Marquises) et l’Antarctique (Terre Adélie).
