Océanographe de formation, j’ai été recruté au CNRS en 2004 après deux années à l’Université de la Méditerranée en tant qu’ATER et 1 année au CSIC en Espagne en tant que post-doc Marie Curie. J’ai réalisé ma thèse de doctorat entre 1998 et 2001, et j’ai présenté mon HDR en 2013 :

En écologie marine, mes travaux de recherche sont fondamentalement naturalistes et interdisciplinaires. Spécialiste des éponges, je décris régulièrement des taxons nouveaux pour la science, réalise des inventaires de biodiversité en explorant particulièrement les grottes sous-marines, et étudie toutes les facettes de leur biologie et de leur écologie.
Mon interdisciplinarité est plurielle, avec la chimie de l’environnement au début de ma carrière, avec la chimie des produits naturels et la métabolomique pour traiter aujourd’hui de questions d’écologie chimique marine, ou encore avec l’histoire environnementale pour mesurer les effets à long terme du changement global sur la biodiversité marine.
