Biosketch

Dr. Alberte Bondeau, physicist and environmental systems modeller, has been senior scientist (chargée de recherche CNRS) at the Mediterranean Institute of Biodiversity and Ecology (IMBE, Aix-Marseille, France), since November 2011. She leads the research group Macroecology and Biogeography of Global Change at IMBE, and is also co-leader of the modelling team in the Laboratory of Excellence OT-Med (Objectif Terre : Bassin Méditerranéen). Her main scientific interests are : modelling the functioning of agricultural systems in the Mediterranean region in order to understand and assess the characteristics of sustainable agro-ecosystem management in the Mediterranean region under global change, accounting for potentially beneficial relationships between biodiversity and agriculture.

Alberte Bondeau concluded her academic training at the universities of Grenoble and Toulouse in 1992, with her PhD dissertation : « Coupling satellite data with crop models for monitoring temperate agricultural areas » at University Paul Sabatier (UPS) and the Laboratory of Research on Space Remote Sensing (LERTS, CNES/CNRS), Toulouse, France.

From 1992-1994, she was senior scientist (chargée de recherche CNRS) at the Center for the Study of the Biosphere from Space (CESBIO, Toulouse, France), working on spatio-temporal dynamics of egetation processes in agro-ecosystems, as well as on satellite data assimilation in mechanistic crop models.

From 1995-2011, Alberte Bondeau was a senior scientist at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK, Potsdam, Germany). She worked on the analysis of the coupled carbon-water cycle and the vegetation through ecosystem/crop modelling and monitoring from satellite observations. She also led the work towards the first implementation of agricultural system dynamics in a process-based dynamic global vegetation model (LPJmL, Bondeau et al. 2007), a tool now widely used for studies linking biogeochemistry and socio-economic processes.
