Patrimoine naturel :

Les recherches des écologues sont axées sur l’identification des processus clés qui limitent la restauration des habitats naturels et semi-naturels. Les organismes cibles de la recherche sont les plantes et les arthropodes qui sont analysés au niveau d’organisation des communautés et des populations y compris leur structuration génétique. L’équipe s’intéresse plus particulièrement à la restauration de la fonctionnalité des écosystèmes en impliquant les interactions plantes-arthropodes.

Elle cherche à mieux appréhender les règles d’assemblage qui expliquent le haut niveau de biodiversité des écosystèmes méditerranéens herbacées et les facteurs à l’origine de la très faible résilience de ces communautés. Des approches simultanées des différents niveaux d’organisation du vivant permettent d’analyser la diversité des communautés et populations cibles de la restauration qui relient la diversité spécifique et intra-spécifique.

L’étude des interrelations entre végétation et arthropodes vise à identifier le rôle de certains arthropodes potentiellement ingénieurs des écosystèmes pour la restauration des communautés végétales et le rôle des communautés végétales dans la restauration des services écosystémiques fournis par les arthropodes (pollinisation, contrôle biologique, etc.).

La finalité opérationnelle des recherches menées nécessite une approche intégrée au-delà des disciplines en sciences exactes (chimie - biologie) des opérations de restauration écologiques étudiées. Celles-ci sont notamment mises en place dans le cadre de la compensation écologique étudiée sous l’angle des sciences juridiques car appelée à se développer suite à la promulgation de la loi sur la biodiversité d’août 2016.

Patrimoine culturel :

Les études réalisées en archéométrie et en chimie du patrimoine visent principalement à identifier les composants organiques entrant dans l’élaboration d’échantillons patrimoniaux à des fins de restauration ou de compréhension des usages ancestraux. Les travaux menés portent sur une large gamme d’objets patrimoniaux, d’artefacts et de matrices naturelles provenant principalement du bassin méditerranéen ou d’Amérique Centrale, avec un focus plus particulier sur la caractérisation de chimiomarqueurs issus de résines végétales et de colorants naturels. Les techniques (GC-MS, LC-MS, FTIR, etc. ) et méthodes développées sont spécifiquement dédiées à l’analyse de matrices complexes (organique/inorganique, métabolites spécialisés/macromolécules) disponibles en très faibles quantités et sujettes à une dégradation importante. De nouvelles approches de métabolomique permettant un profilage métabolique global de ces matrices complexes complètent le panel de compétences de l’équipe dans ce domaine.
