Dr Morteza Djamali is a research scientist (CR) at French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and is working at the Mediterranean Institute for Biodiversity and Ecology (IMBE), in Aix-en-Provence since 2011. He obtained a MSc degree in sedimentology from the University of Tehran (2002) and a DEA in Environmental Biosciences from the Aix-Marseille Université (2004). He then obtained his PhD degree from the Aix-Marseille Université (IMBE) in 2008 in the field of Population Biology and Ecology (expertise : Quaternary Palynology). After a postdoctoral research stay at the University of Wyoming in 2010, he finished another postdoctoral research in the framework of a Franco-Maltese scientific cooperation in 2011. He became recruted in French CNRS in october 2011.
Dr Djamali’s research works are mainly focused on the Quaternary plant ecology in Southwest Asia with particular focus on the Iranian Plateau. He has mainly worked on the role of human activities and the late Quaternary climate change on the vegetation and plant diversity in the Irano-Turanian region. His main expertise is the pollen analysis of sediments but he has mainly been involved in multidisciplinary research projects which combine data obtained from the study of the biological indicators with those obtained through geochemical/sedimentological as well as archaeological investigations.
