My research focuses on the development of Mediterranean and Alpine forest ecosystems during the Holocene and the study of their dynamics in response to past human activities (agriculture, grazing, mining, etc.). The aim is to clarify the impact of these activities on forest dynamics (variations in the upper limit of forests, species composition). I work closely with historians and archaeologists as part of interdisciplinary programmes. Soil anthropology (identification and dating of charcoal preserved in soils) is my work tool and my speciality. This discipline requires a thorough knowledge of wood anatomy to ensure accurate and rigorous anatomical identifications. Comparative anatomy of European woods is an important part of my work.
