IMBE is a member of four AMU institutes

  • The Institut Méditerranéen pour la Transition Environnementale (ITEM) is committed to understanding the effects of global change on society and natural resources, as well as solutions for achieving sustainable development objectives;
  •  The Institut des Sciences de l'Océan (OCEAN), focusing on research, training and engineering in oceanography, particularly biological oceanography;
  • The Institute of Mediterranean Archaeology (ARKAIA), which brings together the archaeosciences, including palaeoecological approaches;
  • The ORIGINES Institute ("From planet formation to the emergence of life"), which uses its interdisciplinary approach to help understand the origins of life on Earth.

IMBE is part of four research federations

  • Continental Ecosystems and Environmental Risks (ECCOREV) ;
  • Culture, Heritage, Digital Societies (AGORANTIC) ;
  • Valorisation des Produits Végétaux Naturels - Qualité et Environnement (TERSYS) ;
  • The Marseille Federation of Chemical Sciences (FSCM; FR1739), which develops and manages very substantial analytical resources on seven technical platforms in Marseille.

IMBE is a member of five competitiveness clusters

  • Mer Méditerranée, which focuses on the economic development of coastal and maritime areas in the Mediterranean;
  • Culture et Patrimoines, based in Arles and focusing on the Culture and Heritage sectors;
  • Innov'Alliance, promoting more sustainable agriculture and environmentally-friendly products;
  • CAP'Energies, focusing on energy sectors and the energy transition;
  • SAFE, integrating the defence and prevention of environmental risks.
