Reconstructing ancient environments and climates requires the collection of bioindicators, known as "proxies":
pollen, spores, microalgae, microcharcoal and arthropod remains contained in sediments deposited over time and in bioarchaeological material (coprolites, wreck caulking resins, etc).
My main task is to extract plant and animal remains by separating them from the mineral and organic fractions that make up the sediment, in particular from core samples taken in the field, mainly in the Mediterranean Basin, Central Asia and Iran.
The frequencies of each taxon as a function of depth will make it possible to infer past environment, landscape and climate.
