My thesis deals with ecological restoration an area of the Crau plainimpacted by the legacy of burning ammunition during the Second World War and marked by a contamination by potentially toxic elements, particularly trace metals and metalloids (TMEs).
The approach developed is based on nature-based solutionsin particular the phytostabilisationwith the use of Brachypodium retusum - a pioneer, dominant and pseudo-metallophytic grass characteristic of this environment.
The aim is to combining environmental diagnosis and the study of ecological mechanisms to define a sustainable rehabilitation strategy, reconciling reducing the risks associated with MBT and preserving biodiversity and the functioning of local ecosystems.
