Julien Issartel is an ecophysiologist specialising in the study of physiological adaptations in aquatic organisms. He studies the responses developed by freshwater and marine ectotherms (arthropods, poriferae, cnidarians, etc.) to cope with constraints of natural origin (temperature, oxygenation, etc.) or anthropogenic origin (metal contamination, nanoparticles, etc.) through essential physiological mechanisms such as energy metabolism, oxidative balance and osmoregulation. In 2010, he was recruited as a teacher-researcher at the Institut Méditerranéen de Biodiversité et d'Ecologie Marine et Continentale (IMBE, Aix-Marseille University).
