As part of the lecture series Midisciences, Emma Léone, PhD student in 2ᵉ year in the team EECAR-IMBE, present his research on the soil of the Crau plain (south of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur) contaminated by metals from the burning of munitions from the Second World War.
75 years on, some of these soils are still devoid of life, and pollutants are changing their properties and impacting biodiversity. Brachypodium retusum shows the potential for stabilising metals, opening the way to strategies for phytoremediation and guiding the actions of renaturation and pollution management.
