28 May 2025 @ 7.00 pm - 20h00

As part of the Endoume Wednesdays lectures for the general public, Victor David, an IRD researcher at IMBE, will be giving a talk entitled "What if the Mediterranean had rights? face-to-face at the Endoume Marine Station or in direct.

Summary of the conference:

MerMéd is a Voluntary Commitment (voluntary commitment) made by the IRD in June 2022 to the United Nations Conference on the Oceans (UNOC) to carry out a feasibility study on the recognition of the Mediterranean Sea as a natural legal entity (ENJ). On the eve of the 3th UN Conference on the Oceans in Nice in June 2025, this conference will review the research and discussions carried out to explore, on the basis of the ineffectiveness of many of the existing legal rules and based on the concept of the rights of Nature, the possibility of a Mediterranean ENJ with its own rights and with unified governance that respects its unity and the ecological solidarity that it harbours.
