SUMMARY :
Thuriferous juniper (Juniperus thurifera L.), a 500-year-old representative of which is the hero of the novel «De mémoire d'arbre», is the emblematic species of the Moroccan Atlas mountains. It symbolises the difficult reality of these high mountain forests subject to an extreme climate... and to the teeth of cattle and the shepherd's axe.
It's also a fine example of a shared species.
First and foremost, it is shared between the southern and northern Mediterranean, with different management and conservation requirements, but always taking into account the anthropogenic and climatic constraints it faces throughout its range.
It is then shared by all its users, managers and protectors, driven by the same fascination for this original tree that is so deeply rooted in local cultures.
