An exceptional forest!

Unanimous approval for the renewal of the Forêt d'Exception® de la Sainte-Baume label

The Sainte-Baume mountain is an iconic landmark in the Provencal landscape.
This 12km rocky ridge, culminating at an altitude of 1,148m, offers exceptional panoramic views of the Alps, Sainte-Victoire and the Mediterranean.
Its two slopes, one gentle and bright, the other steep and shady, are home to a rare and contrasting biodiversity.
A veritable water tower, the massif conceals a karstic network of caves, streams and resurgences.
It is also a spiritual centre, marked by the pilgrimage of Saint Mary Magdalene and centuries of religious and companion traditions.
At the foot of the cliffs, the southernmost beech forest in Provence boasts an exceptional natural heritage.
Classified as a biological reserve since 1973, it protects a remarkable flora and fauna, including some rare and protected species.
The Sainte-Baume embodies both the ecological richness and spiritual depth of Provence.
Between nature, history and legend, this massif continues to inspire and amaze.
The Sainte-Baume, Forêt d'Exception® label aims to protect and enhance this unique natural, cultural and historical heritage. This labelling project focuses on the protection of biodiversity, cultural enhancement and the sustainable management of forest resources.
