For more than 25 years, I have been studying the vulnerability of benthic macroinvertebrates to natural and man-made disturbances. By investigating the link between the vulnerability of populations and the functioning of aquatic environments, I am contributing to a better understanding of the biological characteristics of macroinvertebrates and wetlands, rivers and lakes in the Mediterranean region. My favourite group is the chironomid Diptera. In particular, I have been able to take advantage of my collaborations with other members of the hydrobiology team (algologists, zooplankton and fish specialists) to establish the link between planktonic primary production and benthic and planktonic secondary production through the study of the evolutionary trajectories of ecosystems and in particular the tipping points (metabolism of Girardon basins, high altitude lakes, urban or peri-urban rivers).
