I'm a young scientist who has been fascinated by the taxonomy of sponges, the main focus of my scientific work, for the last ten years.

What is taxonomy? Taxonomy is the science of naming living organisms. In my various research projects, I use an integrative taxonomic approach combining several types of analysis. Systematically, I study the sponge skeleton (morphology) and various molecular markers (genetics). In some cases, I also study the chemical signatures of sponge extracts (metabolomics).

There are 4 major classes of sponges. My favourite group is the Class Demospongiae with, since my PhD, a particular attraction for the family Spongiidae, more commonly known as toilet sponges!
