After a PhD in Process Engineering (Mines-Paris) and a post-doctorate at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, I joined the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD- formerly ORSTOM) in Montpellier to study the valorisation of agricultural by-products (sugar cane bagasse, wheat bran) through the cultivation of filamentous fungi (solid-state fermentation). This theme was pursued at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (Mexico), in particular for the modelling of fungal growth and the production of enzymes and aromas, and later for the decontamination of gases contaminated by organic molecules. This period gave rise to collaborations with Latin American research bodies (Brazil, Cuba, etc.). On my return to France, I joined the Institut Méditerranéen d'Océanologie to study the degradation of aromatic molecules by hyperthermophilic bacteria, followed by the anaerobic production of biohydrogen.

  • 1988-1990 - Research Officer 2 - Biotechnology Laboratory. IRD Montpellier Centre
  • 1990-1997 - Research Fellow 1 - Bioprocess Laboratory. Autonomous Metropolitan University of Mexico
  • 1997-2001 - Research Fellow 1 - Microbiology Laboratory, University of Provence-Marseille
  • 2002-2005 - Research Fellow 1 - Laboratory for the Treatment of Gaseous Effluents-Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana de Mexico
  • 2005-2017 - Research Fellow 1 - Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology Laboratory - MIO-Marseille
  • 2018-2024 - Senior Research Fellow - Environmental Biotechnology and Chemometrics Laboratory - IMBE-Marseille
  • 1984 - Engineer ENSBANA - Dijon
  • 1987 - Doctorate in Process Engineering - Ecole des Mines - Paris
  • 1988 - Post-Doctorate - National Autonomous University of Mexico
  • 2014 - Agroecology coordinator - Terre et Humanisme - Ardèche
I teach Agroecology at AMU and AgroParisTech in the DUT/BUT, licence and master's courses. In addition to my academic training, I have taken courses in agro-ecology and soil conservation. I regularly take part in public events (Nuit des Chercheurs, Fête de la Science, Café des fake news). I'm also involved in disseminating information about agroecology and bio-fertilisers to the farming community: publications in the general and specialist press, webinars, documentaries, etc. Finally, I am a member of farmers' networks (around T&H) and scientific networks (CoSav-IRD).

I am currently studying the production of biofertiliser from forest litter and fermented agricultural by-products (LiFoFer). This empirical process, which has been used successfully in Latin America and Asia, is still poorly understood. With my partners from AMU, CIRAD and the association Terre et Humanisme (T&H), we are seeking to characterise the microbiology and biochemistry of this bio-product, and to assess its impact on market gardening and arboriculture in France and Cuba.
