I have a BTS in Medical Analysis, a Masters in Structural and Metabolic Biochemistry, a thesis in Marine Microbiology and a postdoc at the ORSTOM Soil Microbiology Laboratory in Dakar (1978-1979). I was recruited to ORSTOM to work in the field of Fermentations in Solid Media and the valorisation of agricultural by-products (1979). I was posted to Senegal, Mexico, Morocco, Tunisia, Martinique, England and the Netherlands. I headed the Biotechnology and Fermentations Laboratory at ORSTOM-Montpellier (1990-1996) and UR 185 Biotrans "Biodiversity and Functional Ecology of Microorganisms for the Transformation of Recalcitrant Biomass Compounds" (2006-2008) at the Université Paul Cézanne in Marseille. I was a member of the IMBE Board of Directors (2008-2015). I retired in July 2015 and am continuing my research work as an IRD Emeritus Research Director, working at IMBE.
