Biodiversity, Health

As an interdisciplinary researcher at the interface of organismal biology and ecology, I am interested in the interactions of the plasma membrane with pathogens or their toxins. I study their effects on cell structure and function. Using cellular imaging and biochemical approaches, I decipher biological mechanisms at all levels. Like a naturalist, I also analyse living organisms on a nanometre scale to describe their morphoanatomy. Identifying and interpreting a morphological feature requires structural and functional knowledge of the tissues of interest. Faced with the impact of a host of environmental factors on human health, I have developed an ostracod (freshwater crustacean) model in which I have studied all the organ systems, with a view to carrying out pesticide exposure tests and establishing a histopathological diagnosis as part of the One Health concept.
